De Zwarte Hond is a design agency for architecture, urban design and strategy with offices in Groningen, Rotterdam and Cologne (D), known for designing places, buildings and whole environments that are conceived, rather than created; Designing interwoven spaces defines them to the core.

This commission was to focus on the former Twentse Schouwburg theatre being located in a quiet residential area in the heart of Enschede and its emotional significance to the city. This beacon’s location was a bit difficult, cramped in between rows of buildings, but popping out above the rooftops.
