“...Frank van der Salm demonstrates that archetypical images, visionary ideas from feature films, and illusions from adverts consciously and subconsciously play a role in the layout and the appreciation of public and private space…”

Frank van der Salm, Timeport, 2021

Timeport is a video projection of a photo of futuristic-looking doors. The representation readily evokes associations with a science-fiction film. The design and detailing of the doors could have been inspired by the décor and visual language of a film. In contrast, the photo The English House shows a traditional-style house that stands, rather like a folly, in a park in Dubai. It is an archetype of a time-honoured home, a historical reference point in an environment of large-scale new construction.

Or what about the promise of newly constructed recreation homes in Costa Blanca on the billboard, now bleached by excessive sunlight? It is (or rather, was) the illusion of a colourful future..."

Frank van der Salm, Synchronicity, 2021. A short impression of the full version video-work of 4h 04m 31s.
